CO2 emissions from steel production are today 50% lower than 40 years ago.

Steel production is energy intensive.

However, the steel industry uses advanced technologies and techniques to increase production yield rates, reduce its energy requirements, and facilitate the use of by-products. The most efficient steel companies have reduced their energy consumption per tonne of steel by around 60% since 1960.

The European steel industry is committed to continually reducing energy use and emissions.
